CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION BOARD MEETING OF THE OPHTHALMOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF NIGERIA (OSN) AT MIDWAY HOTEL, ILORIN AT 10.30 PM ON 11-09 2003.

 The President of OSN welcomed all those present and introduce the issues that needed to be settled.

2.      How to assign marks to activities.

 Definition of a credit Unit

      Learning activities (maximum creditable 60units)

·        After much deliberation it was agreed that a credit unit be defined as any academic activity that lasts for one full hour. This excludes break periods.

·        OSN national academic activity eg attendance of OSN national congress lectures at the rate of 2units per hour of activity.

·        Any other accredited activity outside OSN national society meetings eg privately organized activity will attract 1 unit per hour of activity.

·        Faculty lecture to attract 5units for attendance

·        Above will be observed for one year before review.

Examiner at PG Exams/ PG teachingL60 units)

 ·        Fellowship and DO exams 5-units per exam (maximum creditable 20 units)

·        Routine teaching of PG students 20units per year.

·        Resource person at PG update courses 20 units

Research and products (60 units)

·        Presentation of papers at scientific conference 1unit each paper presented

·        Journal or book publication 5 units per year per publication.

·        Supervision of PG work/dissertation –10 units per work when work is accepted. (Max creditable 20 units)

   How to assign marks to activities.

  • For activities of the OSN or the Faculties, CME forms will be made available, collected filled and returned to a member of the committee for assessment and award of credits.
  • For other activities such as locally organised function the content of activity will be sent to members of the committee for assessment and evaluation from time to time.
