SIGHT DAY 2005.
The World Sight Day
holds every second Thursday of the month of October. In the year
2005, this event was marked by the Ophthalmological Society of
Nigeria by various branches and also by the headquarters of the
association in various ways.
The
event held in Abuja was tagged
‘Trek for Sight’ and it involved a trek through the
city of all workers allied to eye care under the leadership of
the OSN.
Ophthalmologists,
Optometrists, Opticians, Ophthalmic Nurses and NGOs were all
involved in the exercise, which commences at the National
Hospital, Abuja, and was flagged off by the CMAC of the
hospital, Dr. Wada. The
trek took us through the Prudent Bank, and the NTA, to highlight
this partnership between the eye care team, the private sector,
and the media. The Prudent bank made a donation of
N100,000 only, as a sponsor of the trek.
The
trek ended up at the Ministry of Health, where the trekkers were
received by the Minister of State for Health, Mrs. J Esuene.

The
picture shows the President of the OSN, Dr. Femi Babalola,
making a speech before the Minister, (Center) and other
officials of the Ministry, while the President of the
Optometrists in Abuja, Mr. Ozed Okonokuah and
other trekkers looks on.
