:: Here is a report on WGD activities in Ibadan from Dr. Ashaye: In IBADAN, NIGERIA, we had an exciting week. 6th March was a great day. Only a handful of our population knew about glaucoma -confirmation of what we already know. We disseminated information through large churches and mosques, markets and motor parks. The response, questions and answers were great. A story was written by a health feature editor in a national daily with clips of interview with me. We had one published article in another major national newspaper. An interview with 1 national and 1 local TV station took place. We also had a patients  relations and health staff educational conference at the University College hospital, Ibadan on the 6th March followed by free screening of commercial motor vehicle drivers at Iwo road motor-park. We were in WGD T-shirts and we distributed free 2000 WGD paper face caps (the sun was scorching and temps was 34deg Cent!). 5000 information leaflets were also distributed. All our events were covered by 3 major TV stations, 2 radio stations and 5 newspapers. Our church, mosques, market events covered 11 of the 33 local government areas of Oyo state, Nigeria. We partnered with the glaucoma patient association, the community birth attendants (the latter mobilised the people for us; they are quite experienced!) and other volunteers to plan and execute our programs.

The event ideas and the media tool kit on the WGD website were great resource materials.

A post event analysis is scheduled for March 13th. WE CONGRATULATE ALL THOSE WHO DID SOMETHING FOR GLAUCOMA ON WGD AND WISH YOU AND ALL GLAUCOMA PATIENTS ALL THE BEST GOING FORWARD.
